On 27th November, 2018, Department of Health Insurance (Ministry of Health) and Hanoi University of Public Health have jointly organized the Conference on Health Technology Assessment in Vietnam 2018 with more than 500 participants from: Ministry of Health, Vietnam Social Security (at the central, provincial, district level, public and private), universities, research institutes, research centers, international organizations (World Health Organization, World Bank, United Nations…), pharmaceutical companies, medical device producing companies, postgraduate students specializing in health and hospital management.
The objectives of conference on health technology assessment in Vietnam 2018 were to present and discuss about important issues (policies, guidelines, methods…) related to health technology assessment, pharmaceutical economic evaluation in Vietnam at the present and in the future; to share results of HTA and pharmaceutical economic evaluation studies in Vietnam and to strengthen collaboration development among agencies, units, and individuals who are interested in HTA in Vietnam
At the conference, specialists, scientists and participants both in Vietnam and oversea countries have discussed, shared information, findings of health technology assessment in the world and in Vietnam. Some of presented topics at this conference included: Health technology assessment in Vietnam: current situation and orientation; Health technology assessment: designs and application….Hanoi University of Public Health has introduced an EQ-5D-5L value set – valuing health related quality of life in Vietnam. The results from this research have been considered as impressive and met with current requirement of a value set for valuing health related quality of life needed by health policy makers, scientists, health economists, and other stakeholders (pharmaceuticals, hospitals…)

The results of this conference will be used for policy makers to select and implement health technologies, criteria development and implementation of health technology assessment in order to identify cost-effective health interventions, low cost interventions ensuring quality of health services, which contributes to the successful implementation of National Strategy of health care, protection and promotion for Vietnamese people 2011-2020 period, forward to 2030 vision.
