Overview

Although many significant achievements have been made, Viet Nam’s health care system still faces many health and health care challenges. Especially, the country has been undergoing a rapid epidemiological transition, characterised by a double burden of non-communicable diseases. While Vietnam now faces both new and traditional health issues, capacities of health care system for delivering health services to the population have not been adequate.  In order to plan and implement appropriate interventions to improve quality, efficiency and equity aspects of health services in Vietnam, the policy makers, managers, health staffs and other health system stakeholders in Vietnam urgently need to have update and in-depth scientific evidence on health service-related issues.  

The main aim of this publication project is to:

  • To provide scientific evidence on health service-related issues for health planning, management and policy making process toward better health in Vietnam.

  • To share research findings on various issues in health services from Vietnam with the rest of the world. 

We welcome all original and review papers from investigations conducted in Vietnam. The topics of the special collection include:

  • Model of health service delivery (diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation services)

  • Access to health service (diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation services)

  • Quality of health service

  • Efficiency of health service

  • Affordability of health service

  • Equity in health service access and utilization of health service

  • Health system determinants of health services (governance, policy, human resource, financing, health information, medical technology, and medicines, etc.)

  • Social determinants of health service access and utilization

  • Etc.

The submitted manuscripts for this Special Collection will be peer-reviewed before publication.

Prof. Minh is currently Vice-rector for research of the Hanoi University of Public Health. Director, Center for Population Health Sciences, Hanoi University of Public Health, Viet Nam. He is also the Editor-in-chief, Journal of Health and Development Studies.  Prof. Hoang Van Minh graduated from Hanoi Medical University in 1994. He got Master and PhD degree from Umeå International School of Public Health, Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden in 2001 and 2006, respectively Prof. Minh specializes in health research methods and health system. He has been leading a number of international and national health researches on various issues of health and health care in Vietnam, including several NHI, MRC funded projects. He has about 180 scientific articles published in international peer- reviewed journals.  Prof. Minh is a member of Independent Ethics Committee of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam. Member of Steering Committee of the Vietnam Health Economics Association (VHEA), the Vietnam Public Health Association (VPHA).  He is a member the Member of Editorial Board of Scientific Journals: Global Health Action (Sweden); Medicine (USA); Journal of Preventive Medicine and Public Health (Korea); Vietnam Journal of Public Health, Vietnam Journal of Communicable Diseases. Vietnam Journal of Public Health (Vietnam); and Vietnam Journal of Communicable Diseases (Vietnam). He has been working as consultants for research methods and health economics for different organization such as WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, World Bank, etc.
