From 20th to 21th April, 2017, the 2nd ASEAN Regional Conference on Health Impact Assessment on "Toward ASEAN Commitment and Sustainable Development" was organized in Hue city, Vietnam. 

The last decades, the ASEAN countries have experienced rapid economic development. Besides the obvious benefits, there are increasingly concerns regarding the negative effects of rapid economic growth on the environment, society, health and life quality of the local population To face this problem, Thailand has taken the initiative to apply a concept of Impact Assessment (IA) to Environment and Health Impact Assessment (EHIA) and Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) as stipulated in the Enhancement of Conservation of National Environmental Quality Act (1992) as well as Health Impact Assessment as stipulated in the National Health Act (2007).

Following the success of the 1st ASEAN Conference on Impact Assessment, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in cooperation with Thailand’s NHCO organize the 2nd ASEAN conference on Health Impact Assessment (HIA) in order to To provide an opportunity for exchanging of knowledge, information, experience and sharing the latest research results on Health Impact Assessment in Vietnam, Thailand, ASEAN and other regions as well as to establish a forum for discussing of current situation of Health Impact Assessment in Vietnam, Thailand and other ASEAN countries.

Assoc.Prof. Hoang Van Minh and researcher Nguyen Thuy Duyen represented for the Center for Population Health Sciences (CPHS) - Hanoi University of Public Health at this workshop/seminar. There, Ms. Thuy Duyen has presented a Health Impact Assessment  model on Raising tobacco taxes in Vietnam.
